Morphe Mickey & Friends Truth Be Bold Mega Matte Lipstick Trio Review

November 16, 2021

Morphe’s Mickey & Friends Truth Be Bold Mega Matte Lipstick Trio is a Disney and Morphe collaboration containing 3 matte lipsticks: Oh Boy (a bright red), Goodie Goodie (a bright pink), and Bow Babe (a brown neutral).

I picked this up at Ulta for only $20, which is not bad for three lipsticks. You can get these by clicking here to go to Ulta’s page.

Oh Boy

Oh Boy

Oh Boy is the perfect red shade in my opinion. It’s a bright red with blue undertones that gives you that perfect holiday red look. This will probably be my go-to this holiday season. It’s my favorite of the three in this trio.

Goody Goody

Goodie Goodie

Goodie Goodie is a bright blue toned pink that looks like something Minnie herself would wear. It reminds me of Minnie’s bright pink bow. This is probably my second favorite in the trio. To be honest, I’m not one for hot pink lips, so its something I probably won’t wear too often.

Bow Babe

Bow Babe

Bow Babe is a brown nude with yellow undertones. Being so fair skinned myself, I didn’t find this one to attractive on me because of the yellow undertones, its my least favorite in the trio. If you have a darker skin tone than mine, its going to look a lot better on you. Hello, olive skinned ladies! I bet this will look fantastic on you!

Packaging

The packaging for these lipsticks are one of the cutest I’ve ever seen. They have an embossed Donald, Daisey, Mickey, and Minnie in the side of the lipsticks and the M for morphe at the top of the lipstick. I thought that was such a cute touch and kind of makes me want to never use these lipsticks.

I also love the bullet themselves. They look interesting with the slanted lid and bold pink shade. They really stand out in my collection and look pretty sleek.

These get 5 hearts from me and are probably something I’ll keep in my collection for a long time, just to come back and see how cute they are.

Pigmentation

Woah, these things are pigmented! I didn’t have to try too hard for them to show up brightly on my lips. I find matte lipsticks to be the most pigmented of all the different finishes, so this wasn’t too surprising.

As you can see in the photos, these lipsticks show up very bright and pigmented. I gave these 5 hearts for pigmentation!

Application

I found these pretty difficult to apply, which isn’t abnormal for a truly matte lipsticks. These tugged a lot on my lips while trying to apply them and the application itself was just uncomfortable.

I did not use a lip liner while applying them because I wanted to see how they performed without one and, as you can see in the photos, you really do need a lipliner to outline the shape of your lips, since these are such bold, bright colors.

Another interesting thing I noticed while applying these is on the first swipe, I didn’t always get a full application of color. It would tug at certain areas of my lips and those would get full color, while other parts would get no color.

I found this to just make application a bit more tedious, but because I was able to get a full color application with a bit of work, I gave this 3 hearts.

Note: I tried applying these with a chapstick underneath and that solved this issue completely.

Texture

These were surprisingly creamy for being a matte lipstick. I was impressed that they didn’t seem to suck all the moisture out of my lips. I could also rub my lips together during the day and feel a bit of creaminess from them.

This is my favorite texture for a matte lipstick because they don’t feel like you need to apply lip balm all day to be comfortable.

This formula is pretty thick and I did feel the lipstick on my lips throughout the day, but it wasn’t terribly uncomfortable.

The texture was above average for a matte lipstick, but not perfect, so it gets 4 hearts.

Longevity

I’m one of these people that has to rub my lips together every 5 minutes whenever I have a thicker lipstick on, so I was doing that quite a bit while wearing them. That does decrease the weartime of your lip product.

I also wore these through eating and drinking coffee. These lasted beautifully throughout the day, even when eating and drinking and when they did wear off, it wasn’t patchy or unflattering. In fact, Oh Boy left a nice little stain on my lips after it finally did wear off.

These aren’t liquid lipsticks, so you can’t expect them to last all day long, but they did last about 4 hours on my lips before fading. That get’s a 4/5 stars from me!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think if bolder lipsticks are your thing, you’re going to love these! I found them very comfortable, pigmented, and not too difficult to apply (especially with a chapstick underneath).

The packaging is phenomal and something that, as a Disney lover, I’m going to keep in my collection for years to come. (Ok, I won’t use them that long, but I will come back to look at how pretty they are).

These lipsticks are perfect for:

  • Makeup Collectors
  • Disney fans
  • Anyone who loves rocking a bolder lip

I’d recommend these if you’re a Disney lover especially because I think Morphe did a great job with packaging this product to make it look like something Minnie herself would wear.

Is Liquid Lipstick Better Than Normal Lipstick?

November 3, 2021

I’ve been on a roll writing about lipstick lately! Recently, I wrote about wearing Lipstick With Braces. In that post, I talked a lot about liquid lipstick. Why? Because its one of my favorite types of lipstick! But is it all around better than normal lipstick?

Today, I’ll be going over the differences between the two and whether one reins over the other.

What is the difference between the two?

First of all, we really want to know what the difference even is, right? I’ll start by going over the basics of liquid lipsticks. One of the most well known qualities of liquid lipstick is that they normally dry down to a matte finish.

Because it has a matte finish, liquid lipstick tends to last forever. They also are pretty smudge-proof. This means no smearing all over your coffee cup in the morning. That’s a win!

Lastly, liquid lipsticks tend to be pigmented, so you don’t actually need to apply a lip liner underneath them. Just pop it on and go.

In contrast, traditional lipstick can come in all types of finishes. You can have creams, mattes, shimmers, metallics, or even a sheer lipstick. You just can’t get that with a liquid lipstick.

Tradtional lipsticks do sometimes require a lip liner, especially if you chose a bold shade. This keeps them from smearing around your mouth and to lock them into place.

Traditional lipsticks also don’t tend to last as long as liquid lipsticks, so you could be re-applying throughout the day.

Is liquid lipstick good for your lips?

I wouldn’t necessarily say that liquid lipstick is bad for your lips, but it isn’t going to do dry lips any favors.

By that, I mean, you’re gonna have to hydrate them. A lot.

Because liquid lipsticks are so drying, they can really cause my lips a lot more flakiness than I’d like.

A couple of tips to help combat this are:

* Use a chapstick of some kind whenever you aren’t wearing lipstick

I tend to wear chapstick pretty much whenever I don’t have lipstick on.

* Wear a lip mask to bed

One of the best lip masks on the market right now. I don’t know anyone who’s tried this and hasn’t loved it! You can learn more about it in my upcoming review.

* Exfoliate your lips

This one by Elf is my favorite because the packaging makes its so easy to use. It also does a great job of exfoliating and hydrating my lips.

* Hydrate!

Drink enough water throughout the day so your lips can stay hydated, too!

Liquid Lipstick Advantages

  • Stays on for hours at a time
  • Comes in a matte finish (bonus for me, maybe not for everyone)
  • Doesn’t smear when eating or drinking
  • You don’t have to worry about it creeping out around your mouth
  • It doesn’t transfer to your teeth

Liquid Lipstick Disadvantages

  • Drying
  • Can be difficult to apply because once you put them on, they’re hard to take off

Traditional Lipstick Advantages

  • Easy to apply!
  • Also a lot easier to remove
  • Come in a variety of finishes
  • Keeps lips hydrated

Trational Lipstick Disadvantages

  • Can transfer around the mouth if not using lip liner
  • Can get on your teeth
  • They don’t last as long

Final Thoughts

Overall, I typically prefer liquid lipsticks just because they last longer and I don’t have to worry about them getting on my teeth or coming off when I eat. There are times I do enjoy a lipstick more, especially in the winter where my lips are just more dry in general,

Each product really has a space in my heart and a time and place I choose them. Today, though, I’d say liquid lipstick wins this round.

Know the Difference Between Lip Gloss and Lipstick To Take Your Look to the Next Level

Difference between lip gloss and lipstick

In the lip world, there are so many different product options to choose from. Do I want a gloss? A stain? A lipstick? Knowing the different attributes to the different products and what look you will achieve using those products will keep the guesswork out of which is going to give you the most use. Today, we’ll be talking about the difference between lip gloss and lipstick and which is best for you.

Finish

To me, this is one of the biggest differences between lip gloss and lipstick. Lip gloss is only going to have one finish option: glossy. Lipsticks come in all different types of finishes: matte, satin, cream, shimmer, and metallic, just to name a few. If its a glossy finish you’re looking for, go for gloss! But if you’re more into satins or mattes, lipstick is the way to go. Below is a quick guide to lipstick finishes to help you when choosing your best finish.

Guide to lipstick finishes

Lasting Power

Another key difference between lipstick and lip gloss is the lasting power. Most lip glosses aren’t going to last more than a couple of hours, if you’re lucky. On the other hand, there are some lipsticks out there that’ll last you most of the day. Take a liquid lipstick, for example. I’ve had those last me all day long. In all reality, the more matte your lipstick is, the longer its going to last. If you happen to pick a sheer formula, its probably going to last about the same amount of time as a lip gloss, so keep that in mind if lasting power is important to you.

What Look You Will Achieve

Its pretty well-known that different products will give you different looks. So, what look did you have for in mind today? Is it a flirty, I woke up like this look? Or a high-fashion, I spent decent amount of time on my makeup because I’m THAT good at it kind of look? I find that gloss is really great to just pop on and feel a little more put together. Its a perfect compliment to the “No-makeup makeup” look. Lipstick, however, will give you any look you want, really. Pick a sheer lipstick that looks like your natural lip shade? You can still achieve the “No-makeup makeup” look. Want a more dramatic look? Go for a more pigmented, brighter shade of lipstick and voila!

Ease of Application

Here’s where it is lip gloss’ time to shine! Lip gloss is literally the easiest lip product you can apply. Swipe it on and its really no fuss. You don’t even really need a mirror! True, there are some lipsticks that can also provide this for you, but they tend to be the more sheer lipsticks. When going for a more pigmented lipstick, however, you’re really going to want to set aside a bit of extra time to make sure it goes on perfectly. No one likes their lipstick smudged around their mouth. Additionally, lipstick application can look a lot better if applied on top of a lip liner. This is because the lip liner can do all the detail work and make sure your lips are perfectly outlined before lipstick comes into play. This is especially true when trying to apply a more vibrant shade.

Pigmentation

One word comes to mind when I think of lip gloss: sheer. The entire purpose of lip gloss is to provide a sleek, glossy look. It isn’t meant to pack a punch when it comes to pigmentation. On the other hand, lipstick can come in all different levels of pigmentation. I’ve had some that were also fairly sheer, while others were super pigmented. In general, lipstick is just going to provide much more pigmentation than a lip gloss will. That isn’t to be negative toward lip gloss, it just has a different purpose.

So, is lipstick or lip gloss better?

Neither! It truly all depends on what type of look you are going for. There are some weeks where I’m going low-key on my makeup and pick lip gloss every single day. Other times, my makeup trends more glam and I choose a lipstick every time. Each product has its own special place in the makeup world and truly, neither is better than the other.

Can You Wear Lip Gloss Over Lipstick?

Tip time! This is actually one of my favorite ways to wear lip gloss – over my lipstick! This way I get all the pigmentation from my lipstick with a little bit of a glossy finish. Bonus, it tends to last a really long time. In the model’s photo, you can see she is wearing a red lipstick with a gloss over top. This changes the look she’s getting from it and now it matches the glossy appearance of her eyes. Instead of a matte or satin red, she has a look that brings a lot of attention to the lips.

I hope this post was able to help you better understand the differences between these two lip products and deepen your understanding of what look each will help you achieve. Trouble wearing lipstick with your braces? Check out my post on Rocking Lipstick With Braces.
